How this calculator works

This tool builds a target date-time in your local timezone and compares it to “now” from your device clock. If the target is in the future, you’ll see “time remaining”. If it’s in the past, you’ll see “time since”. Results update every second.

Performance controls

Turn off “Live updates” to stop 1-second ticking, and optionally freeze at the target moment.

Local timezone + exact timestamp

The target is interpreted in your device’s timezone and shown with a timezone label (like GMT+05:30).

Examples

Event countdown

Set the target date and time; the countdown runs live.

Time since

If the target is in the past, the calculator switches to elapsed time.

Stop at target

Prefer a true “countdown”? Freeze at 00:00:00 once the moment arrives.

Alarm / alert

Enable an in-page alarm at the target time or N seconds before.

Accuracy, device clock, and privacy

The countdown uses your device clock for “now”. If your system time is incorrect or changes (manual change, NTP sync), the countdown will reflect that.

Calculations run in your browser. The tool does not need your location — it uses your local timezone setting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this countdown update live?â–Ľ
Yes. The results update every second using your device’s current time.
Can I stop the counter after the target time?â–Ľ
Yes. Enable “Stop counter at target” to freeze at 00:00:00 once the target is reached.
Can I pause live updates to save battery?â–Ľ
Yes. Turn off “Live updates” to stop the 1-second ticking. This is useful if you only need a static snapshot.
Which timezone does it use?â–Ľ
Both “now” and the target date/time are interpreted in your local timezone. The results show the timezone label (e.g., GMT+05:30).
What happens if the target is in the past?â–Ľ
By default, the calculator switches to “time since”. If you prefer, enable “Stop counter at target” to freeze at the target instead.
How does the alarm work?â–Ľ
The alarm is an in-page alert (sound/visual/vibrate) and works while the tab is open. Some browsers may throttle timers in background tabs.
How accurate is this countdown?â–Ľ
It uses your device clock for “now”. If your device time is incorrect, the countdown will be off by the same amount.
